Dr. Smith is the Director of SelfCare and Wellness Center, Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience and a Diplomate of American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Smith’s professional pursuit is to utilize lifestyle medicine as the primary basis for prevention, treatment, and possible reversal of chronic disease states. He has served well and retired with distinction as the former Physician-in-Chief of the Occupational Health Services of Kaiser Permanente, Hawaii. Having served thirty years of patient care with excellence and distinction, he currently leverages his experience to serve in directing our services in lifestyle, brain health, wellness and health promotion, medical informatics, and human/technology interaction. His specific area of interest is in chronic disease through the disruption of an individual’s circadian cycle.
Through the Self-Care and Wellness Center, Dr. Smith hopes to leverage the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine (Nutrition, Physical Activity, Sleep Hygiene, Stress Management, Social Connectedness and Avoidance of Risky Substances) as an evidenced-based practice of helping individuals and families adopt and sustain healthy behaviors that affect their health and well-being, effectively promoting “lifestyle as medicine.” He believes that “Brain health” can be improved by changing our lifestyle behaviors, including the right nutrients in our daily diet and regular physical activity.
